January Update: RAPs underway

Happy New Year!

All 21 test RAPs on the Library and Community Hub site at Te Manawataki o Te Papa have been completed, and the main piling works are now underway.

As with the installation of the test RAPs, neighbours may experience some noise and vibration during this activity. These vibrations levels are significantly lower than anything that could cause structural damage. People can feel even very small vibrations and may feel disturbed by the vibrations. In general, the further away the work is, the lower the vibration levels being felt.

The process has a lot of uncertainties as there may be variable ground conditions uncovered, and possible unknown obstructions, however our expectation and plans are as follows:

  • The piling rig is already on site, with work commencing on Friday 19th January 2024.
  • The RAPs will initially start on the eastern side of the Library and Community site, along the corner of Wharf St and Willow St.
  • The resource consent restricts construction work to be undertaken within the hours of Monday to Saturday, 7:30am to 6:00pm.
  • There will be c.950 RAPs installed across the entire site.
  • RAPs are expected to be complete by mid-April.

We are very aware that the construction of the project will have an impact on our neighbours and we are very appreciative of your tolerance.
